Professor Rebecca Golley is an internationally recognised leader in public health nutrition. Her research has helped transform approaches to the prevention and management of childhood obesity, with expertise spanning behavioural nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, dietary assessment, intervention trials and more.
As a founding researcher of Flinders University’s School Food Research Program, she has played a pivotal role in building the evidence base for the benefits of school food provision. Drawing on international examples, her work demonstrates the significant potential of school-provided meals to improve health equity, educational engagement, and long-term population health outcomes.
Professor Golley is also a lead researcher on the Thinking Outside the Lunchbox project, a four-year initiative spanning South Australia, Tasmania and New South Wales. The project seeks to understand how a school-provided lunch program could be developed and implemented in Australia in a way that delivers meaningful social impact, is financially sustainable and aligns with national, state, and local contexts.
With successful school food provisioning pilots already underway through Tasmania’s School Food Matters program, Professor Golley continues to be a powerful advocate for the expansion of school food provision across Australia.
We are honoured to have Professor Golley as a member of the Plus One Serve National Program Steering Committee, where her expertise and leadership continue to help shape a healthier future for Australian children and communities.
