Communities across Gippsland are coming together to make healthier eating easier, with five leading organisations officially signing the Pledge for More Veg at the launch of the Get the Edge. Eat More Veg. campaign in Sale.
Held at Lazzaro Bros on Monday 24 August 2026, the campaign launch brought together community leaders, public health experts, local councils, growers and food system partners, all united by a shared vision to improve the health and wellbeing of Gippsland communities through greater vegetable consumption.
Delivered by Plus One Serve, led by AUSVEG, in partnership with the Gippsland Region Public Health Unit (GRPHU) and Food & Fibre Gippsland, the campaign is running across the region from 24 August to 20 September 2026. Through the simple message, Get the Edge. Eat More Veg., the campaign encourages Gippsland residents to discover the every day benefits of eating more vegetables.
A Region United Behind Healthier Communities
One of the most inspiring moments of the launch was the strong show of regional leadership, with organisations from across health and local government committing to the Pledge for More Veg.
The newest organisational signatories include:
- Gippsland Region Public Health Unit
- Food & Fibre Gippsland
- Gippsland Lakes Complete Health
- Latrobe Regional Health
- Wellington Shire Council
By signing the Pledge for More Veg, these organisations have committed to practical actions that make vegetables more visible, accessible and appealing in the places where people live, work, learn, shop and play. Their commitment reflects a shared belief that improving vegetable consumption is not the responsibility of one organisation alone, but requires collaboration across the entire community.
Building a National Movement
The Pledge for More Veg is a national initiative that brings together organisations, businesses, governments and individuals committed to increasing vegetable consumption by one extra serve (75g) per person, per day by 2030.
Every organisation that joins the movement plays an important role in creating healthier food environments and helping Australians make vegetables an easy, everyday choice. Gippsland’s leadership demonstrates what is possible when local partners work together around a common goal. By combining the expertise of health services, local government, industry and community organisations, the region is creating an environment where healthier choices become easier choices.
Supporting Local Communities and Local Growers
The Get the Edge. Eat More Veg. campaign is about more than encouraging people to eat more vegetables. It also celebrates Gippsland’s strong agricultural heritage and the important role local growers play in producing fresh, nutritious food.
Increasing vegetable consumption creates benefits that extend beyond individual health, supporting stronger regional food systems, thriving local businesses and a more sustainable future for Australian Vegetable growers.
Join the Pledge for More Veg
The momentum continues to grow, with organisations from across the food system, health sector, local government, education and community services encouraged to join the movement.
Whether you’re a business, community organisation, health service or local council, signing the Pledge for More Veg is an opportunity to demonstrate leadership and help create healthier communities across Australia.
Together, we can make vegetables the easy choice and help Australians enjoy one extra serve every day by 2030.
